What MyCase Is

MyCase, founded in 2010, is a cloud practice management system for small and mid-sized firms that has passed through more corporate hands than most: acquired by AppFolio in 2012, sold to Apax-advised funds in 2020, acquired by AffiniPay (parent of LawPay) in 2022, and now an 8am product since AffiniPay's August 2025 rebrand.

The platform centralizes case and matter management, time tracking, billing and IOLTA-compliant trust accounting, document management and automation, and client communication through a secure portal with messaging and e-signature. Intake forms and lead tracking are built in, calendaring supports court-rule deadline triggers, and payments run natively through sister product LawPay. MyCase IQ — part of the 8am IQ layer — provides embedded AI for document analysis, summarization, and drafting assistance, with a Discovery Assistant rolling out in June 2026.

Pricing is published: three per-user monthly tiers, with accounting as a paid add-on, a free trial, and no long-term contracts. Recent additions include a Caseway partnership for AI court-form automation (July 2025) and Smart Spend business-card and spend management via LawPay (February 2026).

Where It Fits in a Firm’s Stack

MyCase competes squarely with Clio Manage for the small-firm, general-practice slot, and the comparison usually turns on ecosystem versus bundle: Clio's 250-plus integration marketplace against MyCase's tighter all-in-one with native LawPay payments and published, lower-entry pricing. Intaker, Lawmatics, and similar front-end tools integrate with it for firms that outgrow the built-in intake.

Inside the 8am family, the strategic read is portfolio logic — LawPay's payment rails under every product, MyCase for general practice, CasePeer for PI — so a firm buying MyCase is buying into a payments-anchored suite whose pieces are designed to stay adjacent, not merge.

Questions Firms Ask

Who actually owns MyCase now?

8am — the company formerly known as AffiniPay, also parent of LawPay and CasePeer — which acquired MyCase in 2022 and rebranded itself in August 2025.

How is MyCase different from CasePeer if the same company owns both?

MyCase is the general-practice product; CasePeer is the plaintiff-PI-specific product. 8am maintains both.

Are payments extra?

Payment processing runs through LawPay with no monthly fee, though standard processing rates apply. Accounting is a paid add-on.

Does it include AI?

Yes — MyCase IQ / 8am IQ for document analysis and drafting is embedded, with a Discovery Assistant offered on a page-allowance basis.
