Staying Authentic in an Age of AI-Suggested Responses

As AI increasingly supplies our words, staying true to who you are is what earns lasting trust and respect.

Eric Sanchez’s Take · September 4, 2025

Authenticity is important. AI “suggested responses” and content generators are no longer novelties; they are now a constant presence in our personal and professional lives. Who you are may not be everyone’s cup of tea (I know I certainly am not), but it has been my experience that when people know who you are, what you stand for, like it or not, respect follows. Being a conduit for others’ thoughts, being a chameleon or even outright duplicitous has arguably been the most expedient way to climb a ladder or make a sale, but in the long run it’s hard to sustain and when trust is lost --- well, as Warren Buffett said, “…it takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it." In a world where AI will increasingly replace our own words with “suggested responses” or a complete post, it really is important to maintain connection to one’s self – from motivation to action. One would be hard-pressed to find a stronger advocate for the proper use of AI in our daily lives – I just believe it cannot come at the cost of our true self. Upon reflection, maybe I had the first sentence wrong – perhaps it should have read, “authenticity has never been more important.”
