Don't Let Innovation Outrun Your Cybersecurity

As firms adopt new technology, protecting your data has to be a first step, not an afterthought.

Eric Sanchez’s Take · July 7, 2023

Cybersecurity. I know, it can be a pain. Inconvenient. Frustrating. That said, if you have experienced a malware or similar breach or are otherwise responsible for a technical environment you know all too well that Cybersecurity is necessary in today’s business (hell, personal too) environment. This topic is far too broad for a single post, but this HBR article touched on something revenant for today’s innovation climate. Innovation is also necessary in today’s business, but it is also not without risks. As companies experiment with innovative technologies, it can, as the author cites in the attached article, some unwanted points of exposure. My very first patent was in the field of cybersecurity; I would go on to receive two others. When I was developing a product, the very first step – for me – was securing the information of the database. Ironically, it was (is?) unsexy in the market I was addressing but is one of the few “early day” decisions, I believe I got right. With the increasing prevalence of AI (true artificial intelligence and automation-masquerading-as-AI) in society and business, cybersecurity has not been more important. Think of your data as a family member – you want them safe, taken care of, protected all around. Make sure your innovative technology shares that philosophy. innovation cybersecurity technology legaltech
